But be sure to fear the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you. — 1 Samuel 12:24 NIV

My name is Tony Fernandez and it's an honor to serve as the Evangelist of the Broward Church. I was born and raised in New York and have lived in Broward County for 11 years. I'm married to my best friend and partner in the Gospel, Cassandra Fernandez. While serving in high school, campus and worship ministry over the last 7 years, I’ve learned the power of the gospel in people's lives and I am now grateful to serve as the primary preaching minister. I feel blessed to be able to be on this adventure with my brothers and sisters in the Broward Church!

My name is John Brush and I serve as an elder in the Broward Church. I was baptized as a college student way back in 1973 while attending the University of Maryland. It was there I met my wife Pat whom I married on December 29, 1979 and served as a campus minister at the University of Maryland for 6 years. Our twin daughters were born in June of 1984. Soon afterwards, we moved to a state where we said we would never live-Florida!
Since January of 1986, we have lived all over Florida leading in different churches. We settled down in South Florida in late 1998 where I was appointed to serve as an elder in September 1999. We started out living in Miami-Dade, but now live in beautiful Broward County. It is a privilege to serve as one of the shepherds for this tremendous community of disciples. This truly is a church “not for ourselves!”

My Name is Pat Brush and I love our women’s ministry in the Broward Church! After serving in the full-time ministry throughout north and central Florida, John and I are privileged to work with a young and gifted Broward staff. As an elder’s wife, I am grateful for the opportunity to share the gospel, conduct group bible studies, and connect women with works of service in the church and in our community. When I was baptized at the University of Maryland in 1976, I could never have imagined the incredible blessing of working with families, millennials and teens to build up God’s Kingdom!

- Joe StearnsCommunity Group DirectorJoe StearnsCommunity Group Director
My name is Joe Stearns and I’m a Gator, but don’t hold that against me. When I graduated from St. Petersburg Catholic High School, I got accepted to UF and FSU, but most of my friends went to UF, so I followed. At 18, I had grown up in Christian home, but had become agnostic; I actively wondered if there really was a God. I met some people at the University of Florida who were a part of an active campus ministry, and they helped me work through my doubts. While at UF I met my wife Pam, got a degree, but most of all, chose Christ. I have a lot of interests. I’m into playing chess, cycling, and I’ve even done a few triathlons recently, but my life is committed to being a Christian.
When I became a Christian, the church in Gainesville had a campus ministry that used small groups to make it easier to build good Christian friendships. Since those early days in my Christian life, I’ve always participated in small groups. After beginning my Christian journey in a campus small group, I was in a small group primarily for singles, then one with other young marrieds, and then a small group that was comprised mostly of marrieds with children. Through the seasons of my life so far, the small group has been an excellent method of having a good circle of friends who also want to be followers of Christ. My three adult children, Tiffany, Joey and Daniel, have found faith and a home in Christ, and in small groups as well.
I guess I’m having a positive mid-life crisis; not one where I buy sports cars or climb Everest, but one where, at the age of 58, I sold my small business and entered the full time ministry with my church. I’ve been given the ministry responsibility of helping the small groups do well, which I am thrilled about.

My name is Raphael Valle. I am so thankful to God for the constant adventures that he has allowed me to take part in. Over the last 25 years with our church, I have had the privilege of serving God as a minister from L.A. to Miami and in both Central and South America. Since 1994 my partner in all of this craziness has been Soraya Vasquez. A mutual friend introduced us the day that Soraya came back from living in Colombia as a missionary and in 1999 we were married in Lima, Peru. Like many people we have fought through difficult moments of loss, a special needs child and the challenges that daily life can bring, but God fills us with hope for this life and the next. Currently, I serve in our Spanish-speaking ministry and would be happy to meet with anyone to study the bible or just lend an ear.

Hi, my name is Michael Degree, and I'm extremely grateful to serve in the campus ministry here at the Broward Church. I became a Christian in 2011 while attending Johnson & Wales University North Miami Campus, and in May 2015 I graduated with a BS in Business Management.
During my senior year of college, I was certain that I wanted to help meet the needs of the community I lived in for a career, but I wasn't sure of the specific role I would have in helping serve the community. Amidst confusion, God gave me a passion for campus ministry, and I'm glad to say that God has ignited that same passion into a dream today.
As I dream for God, I eagerly look forward to what God has planned here in Broward County.
- Cristina AguilarCampus MinisterCristina AguilarCampus Minister
My name is Cristina Aguilar and I have been a Christian for almost ten years. I have been a Campus Ministry intern in the Broward Church for over year and have loved every minute of it. God has done more than I could have asked for or imagined. I am so inspired by the love and unity of this church and have enjoyed growing together as a family. I have been encouraged to dream big dreams for God and persevere through difficult times. As a teenager who grew up going to church, I honestly did not think I would become a Christian. It was not until I started reading the bible on my own time and not just at church on Sundays, that I was motivated to have a relationship with God. The power of God’s word changed me and I was baptized in August 2007. From there my adventure began with God and my dream became to share with others about God’s love. For multiple summers in a row, I went on different mission trips in and outside of the U.S. and now a desire of mine is to one day help spread the news of Jesus in another country. The memories of these trips add to my inspiration of wanting to see God work more and more in people’s lives and mine.

Hi! I’m Shanel Woodson. I have the wonderful privilege of serving as a minister in our Campus Ministry at the Broward Church. Though I’m a Florida native, my true roots lie in the great country of Texas! In 2009, I decided to make Jesus the Lord of my life as a freshman at the University of Florida. I moved to South Florida the Summer of 2014 to pursue my education in Nursing. As a graduate nurse, I study human anatomy and physiology. I am constantly amazed by the intricate design of the human body and how the systems work together with precision as we live each day. The more I learn, the more I am convinced that only the all-knowing, all-powerful God could be responsible for such design. ‘For since the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.’ -Romans 1:20. I am in awe of the Creator and astonished by his beautiful creations. It is my mission to help the world understand the love of The Maker through his marvelous creation.

Hello, my name is Simon Choi, and I have the opportunity to serve in the Campus Ministry here in the Broward Church. I graduated from Northeastern University in 2016 with a Pharmacy degree, and due to God's plan, I moved and settled in South Florida. Although I am new here, I already feel like I am at home. I became a Christian when I was 17 years old, and I am passionate about telling others the wonders and love of God. Ever since I was little, I loved the accounts in the Bible where Jesus would heal the paralyzed, blind, mute, etc. God gave me this love for science and medicine, and one of my dreams is to one day go out on medical brigades to help other people's needs. I am very excited to see what plans God has for me.
